Shiatsu can be likened to acupuncture without needles – using finger and thumb pressure instead. The treatment is deeply relaxing. It gives a sense of calmness and well-being as your body’s own healing abilities are stimulated. Shiatsu is an holistic therapy that works with the whole person; physical, emotional, mental and spiritual…and without the use of any drugs.
Initially the therapist takes details of past medical history and current ailments.
Shiatsu normally takes place with the client fully-clothed on a futon mat at floor level. (A chair is used for those with restricted movement).
Loose, comfortable clothing is best for ease of movement and to keep warm.
A course of treatment will be more effective if received at regular weekly intervals. The number of sessions required varies with each person. Shiatsu is complementary to conventional medicine and greatly enhances the healing process. It makes sense to use the best from conventional medicine as well as physical therapy. That way you can benefit from a broader range of healthcare that focuses on your unique needs. After a course of treatment, many people go on to a regular appointment to maintain their optimum health and vitality.
One can feel rather sleepy afterwards due to the deep relaxation. It is recommended that you drink extra glasses of water the same day and a few days thereafter, as energy has been stimulated in your body. Dreams can be more vivid and helpful to your understanding.
Each appointment lasts an hour and costs £35.
